We made it to Besito Mexican Restaurant inside the Westshore Plaza Mall in Tampa recently and really enjoyed our experience. Besito Mexican Restaurant is fairly new, but service and food certainly didn’t miss a beat.
We love the attention to detail from the table-side prepared guacamole, to the complimentary freshly made churros and ‘worry dolls’ handed out at the end of each meal.
Outside patio dining is available and looks very comfortable. Once you step inside Besito Mexican Restaurant, you immediately know that you are in store for something special.
The place is beautiful and rivals the ‘look’ of any South Beach or swanky Las Vegas restaurant. Service is prompt and friendly, without being ‘pretentious’.
The menu has tastes that are sure to please anyone with some very interesting combinations not seen in many Mexican Restaurants. Prices are more reasonable than expected and there are plenty of items for the ‘budget conscious’ as well.
We didn’t go for the table-side guacamole, but did pick another tasty appetizer. Warm, freshly fried chips and fresh salsa was brought out immediately.
Queso Fundido ($8.95) – While the menu didn’t really dive into a full description, anything with ‘queso’ in the name is sure to be a favorite for us. The queso (cheese) was melted with some tomato, onion and chorizo and served with warm corn tortillas.
This dish is a must for anyone that is a cheese-lover, but be warned it is a large portion for even two people. We found that using the crispy tortilla chips was the better vehicle for getting the most of the cheese in one bite.
Pescado a La Parilla – Street Tacos ($11.95) – Grilled fish tacos, roasted pumpkin seed – jalapeno and cilantro salsa, romane, cabbage. The description on the menu didn’t really match up to the toppings for this item.
The pickled red onion on top were actually listed to come with the crispy fried fish version, but paired perfectly here. The fish was fresh and full of flavor and these three tacos were actually quite filling. Each dish is served with rice and beans (for the table) and both were tasty.
Mixtas Enchiladas ($13.95) – Enchiladas with skirt steak, grilled chicken, chorizo, guajillo cream salsa, sweet plantains, cilantro, queso fresco.
Beautifully plated, this dish was a hit with Jeff. The sauce was packed with flavor and this was definitely a meat-lovers dish. The sweet plantains have an interesting contrast to the richness of the meats and he said he would definitely order this dish again.
All of our food came out perfectly seasoned and we also noticed that salt and pepper are not on the tables for use. When we asked, they explained that every dish should be seasoned perfectly and you should not need any additional salt/pepper. We didn’t need to add any, but our server did say they will bring some out if requested.
Each person receives a complimentary churro (these were awesome by the way!) and an authentic ‘Mexican Worry Doll’ when the check is presented. A cool special touch that just shows that Besito Mexican Restaurant really pays attention to the little details that make a meal to remember.
Besito Mexican Restaurant is located at 205 Westshore Plaza, Tampa, FL 33609.
