Daily Eats Hyde Park has to be one of the most popular spots we’ve found to grab Breakfast and Brunch in South Tampa. Like their name, our suggestion is to arrive early to beat the “daily” rush for “eats”.
Located in the SoHo district of South Tampa means parking is limited, but they have additional parking right across the street. The dining area itself is small, but they do a good job with the seating arrangements to serve as many people possible. The small ‘L’ shaped dining area allows for one long row of booths and a few tables and the patio is actually larger than expected (and is pet friendly).
The décor is modern and we liked the mixture of wood and tile accents. We were lucky and only had a five minute wait and scored a booth right by the window. It’s a narrow hallway but the booths are large and comfortable.
Coffee came quick and we loved their logo mugs.
The menu is a bit more ‘trendy’ than your typical diner with some familiar choices. They have many healthy options that diet lovers would enjoy as well as some calorie busters that those that splurge would really like. Our server was great and was very helpful when ordering and even gave us some news about the current egg shortage. It seems that there is a flu that is causing an egg shortage, so that is impacting the supply. While regular egg dishes were available this morning, egg whites were not.
The Gigante ($9.50) two eggs cooked your way (over medium), Applewood bacon, two whole wheat pancakes and choice of home fries, grits, oatmeal or fresh fruit. The eggs were fresh and the bacon was thick with lots of smoky flavor. The pancakes are a bit smaller than those as some of the chains, but they in reality were probably a normal portion size.
We loved the syrup served here and wondered if they added anything to make this so addictive. It went perfectly with the pancakes and I even used some with the toast. The fruit was fresh and we liked the grape/pineapple combination.
The Monday Morning ($9.00) (available any day) scrambled egg whites (regular eggs due to egg shortage) with red onions, turkey sausage and American cheese placed on a bed of fresh spinach. The bowls are quite popular here at Daily Eats and many have a healthy nod. The Monday Morning only came with regular eggs today, but Jeff didn’t mind. It was packed with flavor and he liked the fresh spinach. He was a bit jealous when I got my breakfast since it had bacon and pancakes, but I did share a little.
Portions are large and prices are in line with the SoHo Tampa area, which we think are reasonable. The menu is unique enough to visit often and try something new and you might even try something new. Service is quick and prompt and our server was very friendly. Table turn-over is probably one of their missions here since there seems to ALWAYS be a (short) wait due to the popularity. But they do a great job of balancing everything to give you an enjoyable meal.
