FoodieFrog’s favorite posts are the weekend breakfast reviews. If we hear of a good local diner or Mom & Pop restaurant, we’ll jump in the car and head there even if its across the state. Someone told us about Fred’s Market Restaurant in Riverview just east of Tampa and we discovered it was well worth the short drive.
Country cooking overload is what we found at Fred’s Market Restaurant. The Breakfast Buffet is the best deal and there are two options. The first allows you one trip to the expansive buffet, while the second is the all-you-can-eat route. With only a difference of a few dollars, we decided to see just how much we could eat. With either option, you better arrive hungry.
Fred’s Market Restaurant is nicely decorated and looks more up to date than most chains. It almost had a farm-chic feel, making it feel very comfortable.
The buffet area is located to the front center of the dining area with different items on each side of the food island.
The regular bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage and potatoes are offered as well as some very unique country fixings. We liked the fried green tomatoes, hash brown country casserole and the smoked sausage.
The biscuits were house made and one of the best we’ve had. The gravy could have used a bit more sausage flavor, but was still worth a try. The fried pork chops were too overdone and dried out to grab, but the fried chicken was fresh and tasty. YES, fried chicken for breakfast. We could go on and on about the different offerings, but there is too many to list.
The parking lot was crazy packed, but even with the tons of people, you never felt cramped. Again, make sure you arrive hungry to Fred’s Market Restaurant and plan on being full till dinner. Their one trip option is a great deal, the endless trip deal is the better value.
