I recently had the chance to met Jeff in Downtown Tampa for lunch and we stumbled upon Fusion Bowl, a ‘fast-casual’ Vietnamese restaurant. Walking into the place, there is no mistake you are in for some bold flavors. We liked the clean interior and sleek décor and felt it was overall very welcoming. The menu consists of all the Vietnamese favorites like pho (noodle soup), banh mi (baguette sandwich), bun (vermicelli noodle bowl) and more. They are even open for breakfast with a small, but unique menu.
Ordering was quick and our food was brought to the table very fast, maybe 5 minutes for the pho and 10 minutes for the bun dish. Portions are huge and if you choose the pho, you better be hungry.
Chicken Pho ($7.95) – Broth served with bean sprouts, red onion, jalapeno, scallion, lime and basil. The bowl was huge and the broth was still steaming hot.
All the veggies were fresh and plentiful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. We would like to have the basil and jalapeno on the side, as in most Vietnamese restaurants, but the chili sauce and soy sauce was on the side. Overall we felt the broth was excellent and would definitely stop in again for some.
Grilled Pork & Eggroll Bun ($8.95) – Vermicelli noodles topped with bean sprouts, lettuce, cucumber, cilantro, graded carrot, crispy shallots, crushed peanuts with sweet & sour nuoc mam sauce. This dish had to be the most vibrant and fresh looking we’ve seen.
The vegetables were crisp and packed with flavor and the pork was nicely seasoned as well. The eggroll was a nice addition and we really liked the different tastes in each bite. I couldn’t finish the whole portion and you could easily take half home for lunch the next day.
Fusion Bowl was a great place to find in Downtown Tampa and we will definitely stop in again. The menu is large with so many fresh options; you can eat here and not feel too guilty about any diet.
