McDonald’s Restaurants rolling out custom burger kiosks in Tampa Bay.

McDonald’s Restaurants all around the Tampa Bay area are rolling out the new ‘customize your burger’ kiosks. This self-service ‘touch based’ kiosk allows you to choose all kinds of toppings and combinations with many new options never seen in any McDonald’s. We haven’t actually tried the service yet, but here is a rundown on how it works.

-Choose how you want to pay. You can pay at the kiosk (credit card only), or choose to pay at the counter.

-Choose your ‘burger’. Options include a freshly grilled ¼ lb 100% pure beef (you can also make it a double), a grilled chicken breast or buttermilk crispy chicken.

-Choose your cheese. Options include natural cheddar, natural pepper jack, natural shaved parmesan or American cheese.

-Add thick cut bacon. There is an additional charge for this option, but everything is better with bacon so why not add it?

-Add your toppings. Lots of options here and they include guacamole, sliced jalapenos, grilled mushrooms, crispy onions, sliced red onions, caramelized grilled onions, chili lime tortilla strips, fresh sliced ripe tomato, crisp green lettuce, crinkle cut pickles, grilled seasoned tomato slice.

-Choose a sauce. The large number of sauces include the Big Mac special sauce, sriracha mayo, creamy garlic sauce, sweet onion BBQ, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, parmesan peppercorn sauce, creamy avocado sauce.

-Choose your bun. The choices to hold all of your choices include a buttered toasted artisan roll, a butter toasted ciabatta roll or a lettuce wrap (we love this option).

Once you complete your order, the kiosk will print the receipt. You would either take the receipt to the counter to pay, or if you paid at the kiosk, just wait for your order to be completed.
As you can see, there are many new items that can result in what seems like endless combinations. We like the upgraded list of toppings and hope this a new trend McDonald’s is embracing. The true test will see how well each of the locations can execute this new upgraded burger option. Some locations seem to have quality control issues that need to be corrected in order for this new customize burger kiosk to work well.
