Skyway Jacks Diner in South St. Petersburg, Florida is a local and tourist favorite. Their popular breakfasts are of legends with large portions and ‘scratch-made’ food and almost always a waiting line out the door. These two Tampa foodies planned ahead and got there before the morning rush and scored one of the last remaining booths.
Maybe it was just me but the ceiling seemed a little lower than normal. The place definitely qualifies to us a family run, greasy spoon diner, which is a compliment. The walls are covered with everything and anything “pig” related.
Skyway Jacks diner menu is southern fare with the standard diner breakfast fare, along with their own twists and creations. This was the first time we’ve ever seen Scrambled Brains on a breakfast menu. But today, we just didn’t have the taste or cravings to order brains, so we stuck with the more traditional fare. Everything is house-made so whatever you pick, you’ll enjoy flavor and quality. Which I’m sure includes the brains.
Two Eggs with Bacon ($6.45) – Three strips of bacon and two very large eggs. No complaints here.
The hash is hard to pass up as well as the fresh biscuits and house-made jams. Service is speedy and friendly and we really liked our visit.
Jack’s SOS ($6.25) – The biscuits and sausage gravy were out of this world. There’s no skimping on the sausage here.
I can’t remember ever seeing this much meat in a gravy.
