Taco Bus is true to its name. They have both Tacos and a bus. We were driving around Seminole Heights recently and it wasn’t quite time for us to stop for lunch. That all changed when we drove by their location on East Hillsborough Avenue. The ‘static’ food truck was visited by Guy Fieri for Drive-Ins, Diners & Dives and that meant we just had to stop in.
With six locations including St. Pete and Brandon, so they’ve got the Tampa Bay Area pretty much covered. The converted school buses (yes, more than one at the Hillsborough location) serves as the kitchen and this really is bringing the food truck experience to the next level. The menu is Mexican Street Food and if you are a fan, you will have trouble picking just one thing. We were just ‘tasting’ today so we opted for a few tacos and chips and salsa.
Ordering was quick and the guy walked us through the process. I think he knew it was our first time here. There is seating scattered through the grounds and we found a nice shaded spot. Our food was out quick, maybe 10-15 minutes.
Al Pastor Taco & Carnitas Tacos, flour ($5.99 for the two). The tortillas were slightly grilled which helped keep it together and the veggies were really fresh. The meat was full of flavor and we had a hard time picking our favorite of the two. That means we will have to head back over and try more.
Chips & Salsa ($2.99). Freshly fried and crisp, we liked the large salt flakes sprinkled on top. The salsa was fresh and bright and a winner in our book.
We definitely plan on hitting the other locations and can’t wait to try more menu items. We love food trucks and a static food truck is an awesome way to always know where your favorite place is!
