Wright’s Gourmet House has been a South Tampa favorite since 1963. That’s an impressive feat in today’s fickle restaurant world, right? The house-made desserts are a must for that special occasion (or as a self-indulgence). The lunch selection of fresh sandwiches, soups and salads is quite large, leaving endless options to mix and match. Wright’s gourmet house does have a small ‘breakfast sandwich’ section, but while small in choices, it’s mighty in quality.
Wright’s Gourmet House is set up like a New York Deli. You place our order at the deli counter and pay at the register. There are lots of tables for dining-in and they will bring your order to your table when ready. There are some seating for ‘take-away’ orders and those are strategically located next to the amazing cakes, cookies and sweet display. We dare you not to find something you want to try.
I arrived shortly after wright’s gourmet house opened on a weekday (7 AM) and was able to order and pay almost immediately. The sandwich I ordered was made to order and only took maybe 10 minutes to prepare.
Early Riser Breakfast Sandwich ($8.00) – Bacon, New York cheddar cheese & scrambled eggs on Cuban toast. While you can get this sandwich on any bread, I prefer the Cuban toast. It’s not pressed, like you find at most Cuban Café’s, which works well with this huge sandwich. The bacon is freshly made and has a slight maple sweetness that works well with the smokiness.
The cheddar cheese is high quality and is pure comfort on top of the freshly scrambled eggs. While the price might seem a bit high, this is really large enough to share. This breakfast sandwich ROCKS and while I’d like to try the others they have on the menu, it will be hard not to get this one again.
While the lunch sandwiches are sold as ‘half’ and ‘whole’ sizes, the breakfast sandwiches are only sold as a ‘whole’. It’s also worth noting that Wright’s Gourmet House is closed on Sundays and they get VERY busy for lunch, so plan ahead. Located at 1200 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33629
